For SSL certificates to work on your hosting account, your domain must point to the cPanel server.
SSL certificates are renewed at least every three months using a cPanel feature called AutoSSL.
If your DNS records point your domain to a different IP address than your cPanel server (e.g. wix, squarespace or other) then AutoSSL will email you a warning with a subject line of 'Potential reduced AutoSSL coverage'. This is letting you know that your SSL certificate could not be created.
If your website is hosted elsewhere, you can turn off SSL for that record so you will no longer receive these warnings.
In the email you received you'll see a line that looks something like the following:
The domain “www.yourdomainname.com.au” resolved to an IP address “0.0.0.0” that does not exist on this server.
This means that www.yourdomainname.com.au is hosted on a different server or the DNS entry for www. has the wrong IP address.
If your website is hosted at UpTime, please create a support ticket so we can investigate the issue.
Removing your DNS record from AutoSSL
- Login into cPanel
- Scroll down to the Security section and click on SSL/TLS Status:
- Locate the failing SSL record listed in the email you received. It will probably have a red warning icon:
- Tick the checkbox and repeat for any other hostnames that are not hosted on your cPanel account.
- At the top of the screen, click on the Exclude Domain From AutoSSL button.
cPanel will no longer try to renew the certificate and you will stop receiving the warning emails.
