Your Plesk hosting plan uses Internet Information Services (IIS) which is a flexible, secure, and manageable Web server for hosting anything on the Web. One of the key features of IIS is the concept of Application Pools. An Application Pool in IIS is a container that holds one or more web applications and the worker processes (w3wp.exe) that service those applications. Application Pools provide a way to isolate web applications for better security, reliability, and availability.
Sometimes, you may need to restart your application pool if your website has become unresponsive or some of your code has caused your site to have issues. Recycling (restarting) your Application Pool will refresh the worker process and clears any resources that may be currently in use.
Follow these steps to restart your Application in Plesk:
- Login to Plesk
- Expand your website if it's collapsed, and click the Hosting & DNS tab. Followed by the Dedicated IIS Application Pool icon
- You can recycle the IIS Application Pool by clicking on the Recycle button:
- Or, alternatively, you can click on Stop followed by Start:
