Emails are delivered to cPanel local account instead of 365 or Gmail

If you use a third-party provider for your email, like Microsoft 365 or Gmail, you must ensure that cPanel is configured to route your email correctly.

Ensure your MX records in the DNS Zone manager are set correctly.  Your mail service provider will instruct you which values to use.

You also need to set your cPanel account to use a remote mail exchanger instead of the local one.

  1. Log in to cPanel
  2. In the Email section, click on Email Routing:
  3. If you have multiple domains on your account, select the domain you want to change from the dropdown
  4. The default setting will be either Automatic or Local
  5. Change this to the Remote Mail Exchanger option and click on Change.
